Pre-Conference Session Descriptions
APR Certification Training
As a public relations professional, you have the opportunity to sharpen your skills and distinguish yourself by achieving the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR). This workshop will discuss the APR process and what one needs to know and study to be successful in this formal credentialing process. A number of TSPRA members who have earned their APRs will share information in an informal setting. A complete APR manual will be provided to all who register for this session.
Every PR pro needs some tools to hone his or her craft. TSPRA Rookie Boot Camp will provide you with basic tools, tips and techniques to build a sturdy foundation for a long career. Get to know your fellow rookies and meet some veterans who will help maximize your TSRPA experience. Rookies will be connected to conference mentors for the duration of the conference.

Acrobat Professional DC is Adobe’s newest release for converting, creating, and managing PDF documents. Attend this unique session for learning best practices to maximize Acrobat Professional for your work.
1. Getting Started: Acrobat creation from Office, scanned paper, 3D files, the web, and other sources.
2. Editing PDFs: Homework assessment using the built-in markup tools, electronic stapling/combining PDFS to create seamless deliverables & digital presentations.

Shape perception and enhance the district brand with "old" and "new school" lighting and audio techniques and tricks. Explore the latest in lighting and sound gathering equipment and how to make it work for your projects.
TCU Communication Leadership - Advanced Social Media Planning and Policy Integration for Your District
Are you struggling to maintain your social media profiles and policies in your district? This session will address communication planning for social media, specifically related to advanced social media strategies and tactics that can be used in your district, as well as information on developing policies and procedures for social media usage. Attendees will learn how to critically evaluate their existing social media channels, create plans to maximize their communication via these channels, and how to establish policies to effectively manage the process. A planning worksheet and template social media policy will be provided as take-aways for the session.
Spoken Word Dealing With Angry Public Training
Being able to communicate effectively is critical, especially in front of an audience who might be angry or skeptical. Our Handling an Angry Public Training helps participants learn to address sensitive information and respond to concerns about information that might be highly sensitive or emotional. This half-day session offers participant techniques to reduce anger while dealing with individuals who are upset with your district. Through multiple on-camera interactions, participants will learn how to effectively respond when confronted with angry parents or citizens. This session will give participants the competence and confidence needed to deal with encounters from verbally abusive, aggressive and angry individuals. The training will provide participants with several opportunities to “practice” their delivery. These simulations will be videotaped and critiqued as a group in order to provide maximized learning opportunities.
